Dangerous drug usage is on the rise in India, endangering society and public health. Cocaine, heroin (smack), cannabis (ganja, chars, bhang) and synthetic drugs like methamphetamine and MDMA are the most prevalent dangerous narcotics. Abuse of prescription drugs, including opioids, painkillers and codeine-based syrups, is also on the rise, especially among young people. Addiction, mental health problems, and serious physical harm are all brought on by these medications. Trafficking routes have a significant impact on border regions like Punjab and Manipur. Stricter law enforcement, rehabilitation centers and awareness campaigns are essential to managing India’s escalating drug usage problem.
